SPAN 400 - Practicum in Spanish in the Community

Through community-based service learning, introduction to Spanish-speaking communities, issues of interest to local Hispanic community, develops oral proficiency, facilitates student civic engagement.

Prerequisite(s): SPAN 350.

Student Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course:
1. Students will be able to identify the needs of a particular group of native speakers and to find the means to address it by becoming directly involved in the Hispanic community.
2. Students will be able to work with a partner and serve as Spanish translators and/or interpreters.
3. Students will be able to talk and write extensively about their experiences in the community and demonstrate improvement in their Spanish writing skills by maintaining a journal in Spanish documenting each visit to local sites.
4. Students will be able to incorporate a list of reflection prompts into their journals written in Spanish.
