HON 491 - Honors Thesis II

(3 units)
Continuation of HON 490 . Preparation of an oral and written thesis on a selected topic. Required for completion of Honors Program. Maximum of 3 credits. (Major capstone course.)

Prerequisite(s): HON 490 or approved Honors Thesis.

Student Learning Outcomes (if available):
Upon completion of this course:
1. Students will be able to identify an original research question within the interdisciplinary academic framework and formulate a hypothesis.
2. Students will be able to use the library and other search tools to search for existing body of research relevant to the topic, and to identify and practice research ethics.
3. Students will be able to evaluate and synthesize the existing body of research relevant to the topic.
4. Students will be able to productively and responsibly collaborate with a faculty member and relevant professional community, engage in networking with the academic and professional communities, and reflect on feedback as part of the peer review process.
5. Students will be able to engage in the thesis/project development independently and effectively to understand the scholarly research process.
6. Students will be able to demonstrate proficiency (command of academic writing as appropriate for the discipline) in professional quality written, oral, reading, presentational, and graphic skills.
7. Students will be able to explain effectively, the research to others in the field and to broader audiences.
8. Students will be able to reflect constructively on the research experience in making decisions about academic and professional future.
