ART 790 - Community Service in the Arts

(3 units)
Individual, supervised volunteer experience in museum/gallery management, preparatory work, arts administration, and/or arts activism. May be repeated up to 6 credits.

Prerequisite(s): Admission to the MFA program in art.

Units of Internship/Practicum: 3
Offered: Every Fall and Spring
Student Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course:
1. Students will be able to apply a basic understanding of the nature of professional work in the students’ area of specialization. Examples are: organizational structure; artistic, intellectual, economic, technological, and political contexts; and development potential.
2. Students will be able to apply knowledge and skills related to the development and advancement of community involvement, arts administration, and volunteerism as a crucial component of a thriving arts community.
3. Students will be able to demonstrate competencies in communication, presentation, and business skills necessary to engage in art related professional practice.
