Scholarships are merit awards based on academic performance or talent (such as in music, art or athletics). Detailed information on the types of programs and application procedures is at http://www.unr.edu/financial-aid/understanding-financial-aid/scholarships . Completing the FAFSA is encouraged as many scholarships include demonstrated financial need as a criterion. Continuing students must complete the Graduate & Undergraduate scholarship (GUS) application in MyNEVADA supplemental forms annually by the February 1 priority deadline or May 31 final deadline to be eligible for scholarships.
UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS
The University’s general scholarships are open to new and continuing students who apply for scholarships without a non-resident tuition discount and with under 130 college credits attempted. Priority for funds is given to full time students at the University of Nevada, Reno who earn over a 3.4 cumulative GPA at the University of Nevada, Reno who apply by February 1.
Scholarships to juniors and seniors are awarded primarily by the college or department. Students receiving non-resident tuition discounts who complete GUS are eligible for scholarships from colleges and departments. Some colleges and departments require a supplemental scholarship application.
First year students who receive a non-resident tuition discount are given full consideration for the Presidential and National Merit Scholarships. Students with a non-resident tuition discount are not eligible for Pack Pride or Nevada Scholars level Scholarships.
First year students who submit a complete application for admission by February 1 (including application, official high school transcripts and official test scores) are guaranteed maximum consideration for admissions-based scholarships. Academic credentials for new first year scholarship consideration are cumulative unweighted high school GPA at admission and the best single sitting college entrance examination scores (ACT or SAT) submitted to the University of Nevada, Reno prior to February 1 (December is the last eligible exam date).
GRADUATE STUDENTS
