Intensive English Program
The mission of the Intensive English Language Center is to provide quality English-language instruction and cultural orientation to international students and other non-native speakers of English in order to prepare them to become successful members of the academic and social community of the University of Nevada, Reno and of the United States of America.
This full-time (20 hours per week) intensive English program is offered year-round (with five entry dates per year,) and is open to all applicants who are at least 16 years of age. Students take classes in Reading/Writing, Listening/Speaking and Integrated Skills, which features special topics such as business and culture. In addition to intensive English classes, students participate in a wide variety of activities designed to facilitate cultural adjustment.
Academically qualified students may apply for conditional admission to the University of Nevada, Reno at the undergraduate level. Students who successfully complete the highest level of our intensive English program, do not need to take the TOEFL or an equivalent English proficiency test to be accepted into an undergraduate program. High advanced level students may take one academic class for credit, while studying intensive English.
