The Campus and Surrounding Area

Visitors who set foot on the 290-acre campus of the University of Nevada, Reno are struck by its traditional, yet modern, feel, from buildings that are more than 140 years old, to a lush, green University Quadrangle that is listed as a “Jeffersonian Academic Village” on the National Register of Historic Places, to some of the most technologically advanced libraries, facilities, and laboratories in the country. The atmosphere across campus is vibrant, dynamic, welcoming, diverse and inclusive, with a palpable optimism and sense of opportunity due to campus-wide efforts and investments in recent years to enhance student success and achievement.

Surrounding the University are the cities of Reno and Sparks, both active, family-oriented communities whose economies are rapidly transforming from travel and tourism-based to innovation and advanced manufacturing as the region grows into a technology hub.

Just 45 minutes away by car sits majestic Lake Tahoe, which, at 6,229 feet above sea level, is widely regarded as America’s most beautiful alpine lake. Surrounded by dozens of world-class ski resorts, and hundreds of miles of mountain-biking and hiking trails, Lake Tahoe is a magnet for outdoor recreation lovers and scenic-wonder enthusiasts alike.
