Section III. Core Values and Prohibited Conduct


A. Core Values 

The University has established regulations and policies for student conduct that support the core educational mission of the University students and student organizations.  The core values addressed in the Code are integrity, respect for community, accountability, and mutual responsibility. 

B. Prohibited Conduct

The following conduct is prohibited violates our University Community standards and may subject a student, or a student organization to sanctions under the Code:

  1. Cheating; or assisting others in cheating (Definition 2).
  2. Plagiarism; or assisting others in plagiarizing (Definition 14).
  3. Attempts to obtain earn grades under false pretenses.
  4. Other acts of dishonesty not specified herein.
  5. Knowingly furnishing false information to any University or NSHE official, faculty member, or office.
  6. Forgery, alteration, misuse, theft, destruction, or using without permission, any University or NSHE property, document, or record. 
  7. Knowingly furnishing false information in documents submitted to the University or NSHE.
  8. Acting as an agent of the University or NSHE without authorization.
  9. Voter Fraud (Definition 29).
  10. Failure of the student to present proper credentials, student identification card, driver’s license, or parking registration, to University officials upon their request.
  11. Disorderly conduct (Definition 6).
  12. Lewd or indecent conduct.
  13. Unauthorized use of University technology (Definition 25).
  14. False reporting of any emergency situation (Definition 9).
  15. The unauthorized possession, loan, modification or distribution of keys, pass cards or University I.D. cards.
  16. Unauthorized or unlawful entry or access to University or NSHE facilities, including buildings and grounds. 
  17. The reproduction, manufacturing, or duplication of any key, pass card, University or NSHE I.D. card or unlocking device for use on University or NSHE facilities or locks without proper authorization. 
  18. Willful incitement of individuals to violate the Code, University policy, or policy of the NSHE.  (Definition 30)
  19. Attempted or actual theft, possession, destruction, damage, or misuse of University or NSHE property or property belonging to another University or NSHE community member.
  20. Intentionally making an accusation that is false or is made with reckless disregard for the truth against any member of the University or NSHE community by filing a complaint or charge under this Code or with the Title IX/Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Office or under any applicable complaint or grievance procedure of the University or NSHE. 
  21. Verbal abuse, intimidation, coercion or bullying which is sufficiently severe, persistent or pervasive so as to interfere with or limit another student’s ability to participate in or benefit from the educational services, activities or opportunities offered by the University. 
  22. Interference by force, threat or duress with the lawful freedom of movement of persons or vehicles on University or NSHE property.
  23. Resisting or obstructing University or other public officials in the performance of their duties. 
  24. Failure to comply with the directions of University officials acting in accordance with their duties and/or failure to identify oneself to these persons when requested to do so.  
  25. Violation of University policies and regulations governing: (1) residence in University owned or controlled property; or (2) access to and use of all University facilities. 
  26. The use of, or threat to use, force or violence, intimidation, coercion and/or conduct that threatens or endangers the health or safety of any member or guest of the University Community.  
  27. Use, possession, or distribution of alcoholic beverages without authorization (except as expressly permitted by University or NSHE regulations, such as the “Alcoholic Beverage Policy”), or public intoxication. 
  28. Use, possession or distribution of alcoholic beverages under any circumstances to a person less than twenty-one years of age.   
  29. Use, possession, cultivation, manufacturing or distribution of marijuana (including for medical purposes), unauthorized controlled substances and/or unauthorized prescription drugs, and drug paraphernalia (including for medical purposes) on any University or NSHE or NSHE foundation owned or leased property, or at any University or NSHE sponsored or authorized activity.
  30. Smoking or tobacco use, use of electronic cigarettes, rolled cigarettes, pipes, and vapor products in any area of campus, at any University event, University facility, or in areas where tobacco use is prohibited.
  31. Any other conduct that violates applicable stated prohibitions, policies, procedures, rules, or regulations of the University or NSHE. 
  32. Any act or actions committed by a student and/or student organization prohibited by local, state or federal law or state mandate or directive. 
  33. Contempt of student disciplinary proceedings (Definition 4).
  34. Failure to comply with the terms of any sanction imposed in accordance with the Code.       
  35. Knowing possession on any property of the University or NSHE of any firearms, explosives, incendiary devices, dangerous chemicals or other instruments of destruction, or other dangerous weapons prohibited by the laws of the State of Nevada, without the written authorization of the President or the President’s authorized agent. 
  36. Continued occupation of buildings, structures, grounds or property belonging to or occupied by, the University or NSHE after having been ordered to leave by the President, the President’s designee, the Chancellor or the Chancellor’s designee.
  37. The use of threats or violence against a faculty or staff member or the faculty or staff member’s family in order to secure preferential treatment for grades, loans, employment, or other service or privilege accorded by the University.
  38. Interference with or failure to comply with any interim measure or directive issued by the University. 
  39. Failure to follow the University’s UAM policies on use of animals and service animals (UAM 5,470) and/or to prevent or remove an animal that is under the control of the student from disrupting the learning environment. 
  40. Any act of unlawful discrimination based upon race, creed, color, gender (including pregnancy related conditions), age, sexual orientation, disability (whether actual or perceived by others), military status or military obligations, religion, national origin, gender identity or expression, or genetic information that is severe, persistent, or pervasive and has the purpose or effect of substantially interfering with an individual’s academic or work performance, or of creating an intimidating or hostile environment in which to work or to learn.
  41. Any act of retaliation against someone who reports or participates in any University or NSHE investigation or process.
  42. Acts of bullying or cyberbullying that is unwanted and malicious behavior which undermines an individual or group through persistently negative attacks.  The behavior is calculated to undermine, patronize, humiliate, intimidate or demean the recipient. 
  43. Acts of non-Title IX Sexual Harassment (Definition 19).
  44. Acts of Sexual Harassment under Title IX.   (Definition 20).
  45. Acts of Sexual Violence (Definition 21).
  46. Dating Violence (Definition 5).
  47. Domestic Violence (Definition 8).
  48. Stalking (Definition 22).
  49. The unlawful dissemination of an intimate image of another person, without the other person’s consent, with the intent to harass, harm or terrorize the other person.  This prohibition includes dissemination through social media, or other digital or electronic means. 
  50. Any acts of Hazing (Definition 10).
