Every student must complete at least 3 units of an approved Quantitative Reasoning course. The ability to apply content from prerequisite courses is critical for student success in subsequent Quantitative Reasoning courses (CO2). Students ability to apply content from Quantitative Reasoning courses may degrade significantly over time. Students whose prerequisite coursework was completed 10 or more years ago should take a placement test before registering for a Quantitative Reasoning course.
Many majors require specific courses; therefore, students should review the Quantitative Reasoning section in the program description for their major and consult with an academic advisor before selecting a Quantitative Reasoning course(s). All degree-seeking students must be continuously enrolled in appropriate mathematics courses until their Quantitative Reasoning requirement is completed.
Quantitative Reasoning courses build a foundation for CO2, and this Core Objective is then developed in the major and integrated into the Capstone Integration & Synthesis course:
- Core Objective 2: Quantitative Reasoning. Students will be able to apply quantitative reasoning and mathematical analysis methodologies to understand and solve problems.
Depending on placement, students may have to take additional prerequisite courses.
