Exploratory Student Policy
All undergraduate students who have not officially declared or been admitted to a major or a pre-major are considered an exploratory student and must receive advisement through the Exploratory and Pre-Professional Advising Center. Each semester enrollment holds are placed on the record of exploratory students. In order to have this hold removed and complete the enrollment process, exploratory students are required to meet with an advisor in the Exploratory and Pre-Professional Advising Center.
Declaration of Major Requirement
Undergraduate students who enter the university without having declared a major are strongly encouraged to identify and begin exploring major areas of study with academic advisors and faculty in their first semester. Exploratory students are required to meet with an advisor in the Exploratory and Pre-Professional Advising Center each semester. All degree-seeking undergraduate students are required to declare a major or be admitted into a program before or upon completion of 60 credits. Upon earning 45 credits (exclusive of Advanced Placement and/or International Baccalaureate credits), students who have not declared a major will be contacted and informed that they must declare a major before completing 60 credits. Exploratory students will be encouraged to participate in various career exploration programs and activities offered by the Exploratory and Pre-Professional Advising Center, colleges, or departments. Students who have not declared their major by the time they have earned 60 credits will not be permitted to register for classes in the next term until they have declared a major.
Exploratory Transfer Student Policy
All transfer undergraduate students who have not officially declared or been admitted to a major or a pre-major must receive advisement through the Exploratory and Pre-Professional Advising Center. A student’s failure to receive advisement may delay graduation. Transfer students must declare a major or pre-major before they have earned 60 credits. For students transferring into the University with more than 60 credits, a enrollment hold will be added at the end of late enrollment for their first term. The declaration of major must occur before enrollment opens for the next term. Transfer students who have not declared their major by the time enrollment for the next term opens will not be permitted to enroll for classes in the next term until they have declared a major.
