Veteran’s Satisfactory Academic Policy and VA Education Benefits Use
The term “Veteran” refers to any student eligible for and receiving VA Education Benefits or VA Vocational Rehabilitation Benefits. Evaluations are made at the end of each term to determine a student’s academic progress toward a specified degree or eligible certificate. A student is considered in compliance of Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) if his/her Grade Point Average (GPA) meets the SAP conditions in the University Office of Financial Aid, Employment and Scholarship Services. To maintain satisfactory academic progress, a student must earn a 2.0 semester and/or 2.0 cumulative University of Nevada GPA.
The first semester a student using VA Education or VA Rehabilitation Benefits fails to meet the prescribed SAP requirements, he/she will be contacted for mandatory benefit advisement and placed on a written Warning of termination of benefits by the University of Nevada Veteran Services Office. Once advised, a student may use the BA VA Benefit during the Warning status and has one semester to comply with the minimum standard. If the student meets this provision, the Warning will be lifted. If student fails to comply with the set standard by the end of the Warning term, eligibility for use of the VA Benefit at the institution will be terminated until such time SAP compliance is made. The University of Nevada Veteran Services Office is required to report the Termination of eligibility of benefits to the Department of Veteran Affairs Education Benefit Regional Processing Office (RPO). Returning students admitted to the University below the SAP standard will also be subject to this policy if they have not already exhausted their Warning term previously. |
