MUS 109 - Functional Piano I (1 unit) An introduction to playing the piano as well as basic reading and music theory fundamentals. Designed for music majors who read at least one clef.
Units of Laboratory/Studio: 1 Offered: Every Fall Student Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of this course: 1. Students will be able to play one octave scales and corresponding arpeggios in the major keys of C, G, D, A, and E as well as transposing easy melodies in these keys. 2. Students will be able to recognize and play major, minor, augmented, and diminished triads and build V7 chord in root position. 3. Students will be able to recognize and play triads in the above major keys and apply this knowledge to harmonizing melodies. 4. Students will be able to play solo pieces of a late-Elementary level (short easy classical and jazz style) with adequate coordination and accuracy.
