MUS 253 - Jazz Improvisation I (2 units) Performance-oriented study of the basic techniques of improvisation in the jazz idiom. (Formerly MUS 231; implemented Fall 2004.)
Prerequisite(s): MUS 204.
Units of Lecture: 2 Offered: Every Fall Student Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of this course: 1. Students will be able to aurally identify many of the great jazz improvisors of the past and present. 2. Students will be able to demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the basic scales and chords used in jazz improvisation. 3. Students will be able to memorize and perform several basic jazz tunes.
