MUS 353 - Jazz Improvisation III (2 units) Performance-oriented study of intermediate-to-advanced techniques of improvisation in the jazz idiom. (Formerly MUS 331; implemented Fall 2004.)
Prerequisite(s): MUS 254.
Units of Lecture: 2 Offered: Every Fall - Even Years Student Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of this course: 1. Students will be able to demonstrate ability to musically emulate many of the great jazz improvisers of the past and present. 2. Students will be able to demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the reharmonizations common during the ”be bop” era. 3. Students will be able to perform blues and “rhythm changes” contrafacts in multiple keys.
