MUS 388 - Woodwind Class Methods

Fundamental instruction in each of the instruments and in class teaching procedures. Simple selections, employing various keys and rhythms. (Formerly MUS 104; implemented Fall 2005.)

Student Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course:
1. Students will be able to develop skills in the art of teaching instruments in the woodwind family. They will learn information applicable to all woodwind instruments, such as basic principles of sound production and musicality, and will be introduced to standard pedagogical literature and its use.
2. Students will be able to demonstrate pedagogical skills as they troubleshoot particular problems encountered in playing and teaching woodwind instruments.
3. Students will be able to develop intermediate-level playing skills on instruments in the woodwind family. In addition to the experience of playing, this portion is also useful for educators in knowing how to assist their woodwind students.
