MUS 410 - Jazz Composition (3 units) Applied study of original writing in the jazz idiom. Exploration of melodic, harmonic, rhythmic, and formal principles. Analysis of works by influential composers.
Prerequisite(s): MUS 254; MUS 256.
Units of Lecture: 3 Offered: Every Fall - Even Years Student Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of this course: 1. Students will be able to compose pieces demonstrating basic knowledge of tonal and modal harmony. 2. Students will be able to compose pieces that adhere to standard forms such as AABA. 3. Students will be able to compose pieces that demonstrate conceptual and theoretical understanding of various historical periods .
