MUS 425 - Film Music (3 units) CO13 Interdisciplinary study of film music, focusing on the various functions of different kinds of music used on soundtracks.
Prerequisite(s): ENG 102 ; CH 201 or CH 202 or CH 203 or CH 212 ; Junior or Senior standing.
Units of Lecture: 3 Core Status: General Capstone, CO13 Offered: Every Summer Student Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of this course: 1. Students will be able to demonstrate a familiarity with the current state of research in media studies, specifically, the state of Film Music Studies. 2. Students will be able to make connections between and apply theories from cultural studies, music, theater, history, and media courses in the context of their study of film music. 3. Students will be able to demonstrate their writing ability through weekly papers and large format papers. 4. Students will be able to demonstrate their ability to synthesize information, use critical analysis of the works under discussion, and interpret these artworks in an articulate, nuanced manner.
