Detailed consideration of selected operas of the various nationalities and periods in music history.

Prerequisite(s): MUS 341 ; MUS 342 .

Student Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course:
1. Students will be able to analyze the variety of social, cultural, migrational, ethnic, and gendered contexts that inform opera.
2. Students will be able to speak and write about opera with nuance.
3. Students will be able to apply their knowledge of opera history to their area of specialization.
