An exploration of the genres cultural and musical history.

Prerequisite(s): MUS 122; MUS 254.

Student Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course:
1. Students will be able to analyze the cultural contexts of specific musical pieces and traditions in jazz. 
2. Students will be able to apply their historical and cultural knowledge of jazz music to the analysis of specific pieces of music.
3. Students will be able to demonstrate the aural and visual skills necessary to achieve an analytical perspective on unfamiliar musical forms.
