MUS 485 - Internship in Music Education (1 to 3 units) Application of course content included in MUS 381, MUS 384 or MUS 441 in the schools or community agencies under the supervision of school or agency personnel and university staff members. Maximum of 12 credits each.
Prerequisite(s): MUS 381; MUS 384 or MUS 441.
Offered: Every Fall and Spring Student Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of this course: 1. Students will be able to take part in successful teaching experiences under the mentorship of an experienced teacher. 2. Students will be able to indentify best practices of various components of teaching, e.g. curricular choices, sequencing, and assessment, utilized by teachers. 3. Students will be able to indentify routines, procedures, and strategies that facilitate successful student achievement. 4. Students will be able to indentify classroom management strategies and describe the impact that management (or lack thereof) has on a music classroom. 5. Students will be able to reflect upon and assess curricular choices made by an instructor through conversations and in writing. 6. Students will be able to reflect upon and assess their own teaching and feedback from mentors to improve skills though discussions and assignments.
