NRES 467 - Regional and Global Issues in Environmental Sciences

Scientific principles underlying large-scale environmental problems linking the atmosphere, biosphere and geosphere. Empirical and modeling techniques for studying global issues. Analysis of specific global and regional environmental issues.

Prerequisite(s): ENG 102 ; CH 201  or CH 202  or CH 203  or CH 212 ; CHEM 121A  and CHEM 121L ; Junior or Senior standing.

Student Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course:
1. Students will be able to demonstrate improvement in their writing and speaking ability through assigned debates and reports.
2. Students will be able to demonstrate improvement in their quantitative reasoning by use of figures and tables to base their arguments and written assignments.
3. Students will be able to analyze and determine the validity of positions taken on a variety of environmental issues.
4. Students will be able to demonstrate their understanding of why regional and global decisions need to be based on real data.
5. Students will be able to exhibit their understanding of how values judgments pervade environmental issues both regionally and globally.
6. Students will be able to evaluate how politics and public policy invades the realm of environmental decision making.
