NURS 780 - Curriculum Development and Evaluation Nursing

Selected teaching and learning theories with an emphasis on curriculum development.

Prerequisite(s): Admission to the MSN program.

Student Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course:
1. Students will be able to discuss the historical development of nursing education as it applies to the development and evaluation of quality educational programs.
2. Students will be able to apply key theories, concepts, scientific processes, informatics, technology, and teaching and learning to curriculum development and evaluation in nursing and health care.
3. Students will be able to analyze a curriculum/educational program for its integration of concepts related to diversity and the complex, multifaceted health promotion and disease prevention needs of all persons: analyze each of the components of the curriculum; evaluate the philosophy and mission of a curriculum or health agency’s educational program for their relationship to relevant social, healthcare policy, and professional issues; analyze a curriculum/educational program’s objectives for the extent to which they can be measured as learning outcomes.
4. Students will be able to collaborate with other professionals, members of the community, and students to develop and evaluation educational services related to optimal health care for diverse individuals, families, select populations, and communities with an emphasis on health promotion and disease prevention.
5. Students will be able to integrate a broad understanding of relevant social and healthcare policy issues into the development and evaluation of nursing curricula and educational programs.
6. Students will be able to participate knowledgeably in the development, implementation, revision and evaluation of nursing and health education programs to ensure quality educational services in health care.
7. Students will be able to compare program evaluation, program approval, and accreditation models as they apply to quality issues and patient safety in curriculum development and evaluation.
