PSC 323 - History of Political Thought I (3 units)
Analytical and critical survey of political theories from the classical period to the present.

Student Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course:
1. Students will be able to demonstrate understanding of major questions and debates in the early history of political thought in the western tradition, such as: “What makes a thought ‘political’?”, “What is the relationship between truth and politics?”, “Is there such a thing as a just society?”, “What is the relationship between politics, the family, and religion?”; and ”What does ‘nature’ have to do with politics?”.
2. Students will be able to critically read and analyze the major works of Plato, Aristotle, and Machiavelli.
3. Students will be able to utilize the theories of Plato, Aristotle, and Machiavelli to understand contemporary political issues.
