PSC 401E - Politics of Nevada

Comparative analysis of political structures, processes and culture of the western states, including Nevada. (Satisfies the legislatively mandated Nevada Constitution requirement.)

Prerequisite(s): CH 201 or CH 202 or CH 203; ENG 102; Junior or Senior standing.

Student Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course:
1. Students will be able to discuss how Nevada was initially settled and gained statehood.
2. Students will be able to evaluate patterns of economic and political development in the state, especially in terms of selecting particular economic sectors which define the state both historically and in the current era.
3. Students will be able to identify the basic structures of governmental decision making and compare them to other states.
4. Students will be able to articulate how Nevada structures its budget and tax system and how this affects policy choices.
5. Students will be able to evaluate major governmental services in the state.
6. Students will be able to discuss how rapid population growth has affected state politics and policy.
