PSC 403E - Environmental Law

(3 units)
Examination of current federal laws, rules and regulations concerning the environment. Emphasis on court decisions and interpretations of the law.

Student Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course:
1. Students will be able to describe the development of Environmental Law in the United States.
2. Students will be able to identify the provisions of the U.S. Constitution that are used to support and restrain environmental regulation.
3. Students will be able to discuss the tension between regulatory takings and private property rights.
4. Students will be able to identify the names and responsibilities of state and federal environmental and natural resource agencies.
5. Students will be able to compare fundamental aspects of major Federal environmental laws and how these laws relate to state and local environmental regulations and protections.
6. Students will be able to evaluate the successes and failures of U.S. Environmental Law.
