SRJS 630 - Advanced Advocacy: Legislative Policy (3 units) In depth, multidisciplinary experience with advocacy in the legislative process generally and in Nevada, on specific legislative proposals, either individually or in teams
Units of Lecture: 3 Offered: Every Fall - Even Years Student Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of this course: 1. Students will be able to articulate several theoretical and procedural approaches to advocacy in the public and private sector. 2. Students will be able to develop and, both orally and in writing, explain and defend legislative proposals or policies in an area of their interest. 3. Students will be able to explain to an interested audience the major benefits of their legislative or policy proposal and respond to criticisms of it. 4. Students will be able to apply the perspectives and methodologies of different advocacy approaches to the proposals they develop. 5. Students will be able to critically evaluate the theoretical literature on advocacy as it applies to the practical development of advocacy positions.
