Student Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course:
1. Students will be able to apply their knowledge of cultural studies, gender studies, and music studies to the analysis of specific pieces of music, both historical and contemporary.
2. Students will be able to discuss the cultural contexts of specific musical pieces and cultures.
3. Students will be able to synthesize complex arguments in written form.
4. Students will be able to demonstrate and apply empathy and cultural sensitivity to the study of diverse musical cultures.
5. Students will be able to examine and discuss the historical and cultural conditions under which a diverse range of music is made.
6. Students will be able to apply the study of diversity in historical contexts to the understanding of diversity in contemporary contexts.
