WMST 650 - Feminist Theory and Methods

(3 units)
Survey of contemporary theory and method in women’s studies. Examines practical and philosophical issues in feminist thought on the construction and significance of gender difference. (General Capstone and Diversity course.)

Student Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course:
1. Students will be able to critically analyze theories, methods, and representations of gender and feminism from an interdisciplinary perspective.
2. Students will be able to apply feminist theory to the examination of laws, policies, practices, and cultural representations that produce gendered identities in contemporary society.
3. Students will be able to design, develop, and complete appropriate steps to conduct a research project addressing a contemporary problem relating to women, gender, or sexuality.
4. Students will be able to clearly articulate, in writing and orally, how feminist theory and methods help us to make sense of contemporary social conditions and to act in ways that can effect social change.
