KIN 430 - Psychology of Activity (3 units) Designed to provide an understanding of the theories and psychological research on learning, motivation, and performance of physical activity.
Prerequisite(s): CHS 370; CHS 371.
Units of Lecture: 3 Offered: Every Spring Student Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of this course: 1. Students will be able to analyze regular physical education curriculum and varsity sports from a student centered perspective that places an emphasis on the acquisition of lifelong skills and fair play over winning. 2. Students will be able to apply behavior modification principles to facilitate motor skills acquisition in physical education and/or coaching competitive environments. 3. Students will be able to explain the principles of modeling and the provision of performance feedback. 4. Students will be able to implement the principles for the establishment and continuous reinforcement of intrinsic motivation. 5. Students will be able to describe group dynamics theory and be able to apply principles of leadership, social facilitation, and cohesiveness to enhance cooperation, sharing, and member focus on leader and group goals. 6. Students will be able to articulate a detailed knowledge of sport psychology and social psychology of sport topics detailed in the list of required readings and in class lectures.
