PAS 760 - Elective Clerkship (5 units) In this course, second-year PA students are given the opportunity to choose a one-month medical experience. Commonly requested electives include internal medicine and surgical subspecialties.
Units of Internship/Practicum: 5 Student Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of this course: 1. Students will be able to identify health risks, community resources, and referral patterns for population(s) served by the specific elective clinic/setting. 2. Students will be able to gather information, formulate differential diagnoses, and propose plans for the initial evaluation and management of patients with chosen elective presentations. 3. Students will be able to apply knowledge and skills learned throughout the didactic year to demonstrate competency in advanced elicitation of history, communication, physical examination, and critical thinking skills. 4. Students will be able to recognize medical conditions commonly seen in chosen elective that require specialized evaluation and management outside of the primary care setting. 5. Students will be able to articulate how the role of PAs in the chosen elective has improved the delivery and access of care.
