ART 235 - Photography II - Lighting

(3 units)
Artificial lighting techniques and theory; strobe equipment, hotlights and electronic flashes. Students produce a portfolio of work demonstrating knowledge of these techniques.

Prerequisite(s): ART 100 ; ART 141 .

Student Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course:
1. Students will be able to perform intermediate competencies utilizing studio lighting equipment and artificial lighting leading to the development of creative lighting design.
2. Students will be able to apply camera and computer-based technologies for creative production in a studio setting, including intermediate problem solving utilizing: photography, digital printing, and studio lighting techniques.
3. Students will be able to examine and discuss critical issues and practices in the areas of artificial lighting and flash photography in relationship to contemporary practices in the visual arts.
4. Students will be able to articulate an intermediate level of knowledge of lighting theory and practices in studio lighting design utilizing on and off camera flash technologies.
5. Students will be able to apply, in discussion, critiques and written work, concepts central to photography and the use of artificial lighting.
6. Students will be able to develop a proficiency in writing about their creative practice and others while learning best practices for project proposals and artist statements.
