BIOL 308 - Museum Studies (3 units) History and philosophy of museums; their role in contemporary society; museum organization, management, program planning, funding, publications, guest speakers, supervised field trips to museums.
Units of Lecture: 3 Offered: Every Spring - Odd Years Student Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of this course: 1. Students will be able to demonstrate a basic understanding of general museum best practices and ethics. 2. Students will be able to demonstrate understanding of the role of science and natural history museums in the scientific community. 3. Students will be able to demonstrate understanding of the unique challenges facing science and natural history museums. 4. Students will be able to demonstrate understanding of career paths and the many different jobs scientists hold in the museum field. 5. Students will be able to demonstrate understanding of museum administrative operations. 6. Students will be able to demonstrate understanding of the basic history of natural history and science museums.
