CAS 437 - Aging and Addiction

A multidisciplinary overview of factors affecting the identification, intervention and treatment of substance-related and behavioral addictions older adults.

Prerequisite(s): Junior standing.

Student Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course:
1. Students will be able to explain the aging process from a bio-psycho-social perspective.
2. Students will be able to differentiate and discuss the various theories and models of aging and the synergistic effect of substance-related behaviors.
3. Students will be able to identify risk and protective factors relevant to addictions among the aging across bio-psycho-social domains.
4. Students will be able to describe the process, progression, treatment, and recovery from addictive disorders for the aging population.
5. Students will be able to identify prevention and intervention strategies and trends relevant to addiction and the aging.
