CHEM 799 - Dissertation (1 to 24 units)

Student Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course:
1. Students will be able to identify a novel research project in a specialized area of chemistry that will extend knowledge in and have a strong impact on the discipline of Chemistry.
2. Students will be able to search and discuss the scientific literature related to a specialized research area.
3. Students will be able to carry out an advanced, independent, and multifaceted research project on a chosen topic.
4. Students will be able to synthesize original research results with information from the chemical literature to develop new insights.
5. Students will be able to communicate and defend the results of the Dissertation research in writing and in oral presentation.
6. Students will be able to articulate and follow ethical principles in a scientific context, including professional standards of laboratory practice, the communication of literature research without plagiarism, the crediting of collaborators and standards for co-authorship, and principles of intellectual property.
