CRJ 126 - Legal Research and Methods

Exposure to American legal thought, methods of reasoning, and research with a focus on identifying legal issues and developing basic legal research skills.

Student Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course:
1. Students will be able to briefly describe the origin and organization of law and the legal system.
2. Students will be able to identify, locate, and utilize various types of legal primary and secondary sources.
3. Students will be able to read and analyze basic enacted law/statutes and case law.
4. Students will be able to explain various applications of legal research and develop research strategies for addressing legal questions and real-life legal problems.
5. Students will be able to update and validate legal research.
6. Students will be able to apply appropriate legal citation for legal sources in a variety of contexts.
7. Students will be able to utilize various tools for manual and online legal research.
