ECON 304 - Money & Banking

(3 units)
Nature and functions of money, functions and history of banks, Federal Reserve System; monetary, theory and policy in relation to employment, growth and price levels.

Prerequisite(s): ECON 102; ECON 103 or HON 220.

Student Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course:
1. Students will be able to interpret financial and monetary policy news, as well as Federal Reserve policy announcements.
2. Students will be able to demonstrate understanding of the Federal Reserve system and the process followed in the determination of the Federal Funds Rate, namely the overnight rate of interest that the Federal Reserve targets.
3. Students will be able to demonstrate understanding of the basics of commercial banking, and the canonical models used to price securities.
