EDRL 447 - Literacy, Diversity and Schooling (3 units) Literacy issues for students for various cultures, socioeconomic situations, gender and language groups.
Prerequisite(s): Admission to teacher education program.
Units of Lecture: 3 Student Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of this course: 1. Students will be able to describe, compare, and critique literacy research and scholarship pertaining to children from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds. 2. Students will be able to examine and evaluate the impact that our own backgrounds and beliefs have on our instructional practices for children from diverse backgrounds. 3. Students will be able to document and discuss the impact of broader community and societal forces on the education of children from diverse backgrounds.
