Writers and works from medieval England, excluding Chaucer, e.g., Beowulf, Langland, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, Everyman.

Prerequisite(s): Junior standing. Corequisite(s): ENG 303 .

Student Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course:
1. Students will be able to apply their knowledge of Middle English grammar to read poetry and prose.
2. Students will be able to identify the features of the various Middle English dialects and distinguish the dialects of the texts we read.
3. Students will be able to analyze texts according to their generic horizons as well as their cultural and historical contexts.
