ENG 462E - American Poetry, 1945-Present (3 units) Close study of selected American poets working between World War II and the present, including Ginsberg, Plath, Bishop, and Gluck.
Prerequisite(s): Junior standing. Corequisite(s): ENG 303 .
Units of Lecture: 3 Offered: Every Spring - Odd Years Student Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of this course: 1. Students will be able to write lucid, well-constructed arguments analyzing and interpreting texts. 2. Students will be able to analyze a literary work in its cultural and historical contexts. 3. Students will be able to articulate the premises and assumptions of different critical approaches and apply them to poems using literary-critical vocabulary. 4. Students will be able to evaluate the genre-specific features of contemporary American poetry.
