FREN 312 - French Phonetics

(3 units)
Introduction to phonetic theory and practice in pronunciation; instruction and practice in levels and usage. Not open to native speakers using the standard form of the language.

Prerequisite(s): FREN 211.  

Units of Lecture: 3
Student Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course:
1. Students will be able to describe the phonetic and phonological system of French.
2. Students will be able to identify the symbols of the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA).
3. Students will be able to demonstrate proper pronunciation of French texts.
4. Students will be able to transcribe French words and sentences using the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA).
5. Students will be able to apply the principles of French phonetics and phonology to the teaching of French.
