GER 315 - Introduction to German Literature

(3 units)
Readings in German literature in its major forms with emphasis on the modern period. Discussions.  Offered through USAC only.

Prerequisite(s): GER 212.

Student Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course:
1. Students will be able to read and analyze literature from some of the main literary epochs of the 20th century which are Bürgerlicher Realismus (Fontane), Jahrhundertwende (Schnitzler, Rilke, Morgenstern, Ringelnatz), Expressionismus (Kafka, Trakl, Heym, Benn), Literatur des Exils und innere Emigration (Brecht, Kästner), Nachkriegszeit (Dürrenmatt) and Gegenwart.
2. Students will be able to demonstrate ability to express opinions and points of view in discussions and in writing German.
3. Students will be able to interpret and analyze literature.
4. Students will be able to demonstrate knowledge of the authors and historical background of the texts.
