HIST 371 - Ancient Civiliz I

Political, economic, cultural and technological contributions of ancient Mesopotamia, Egypt, Palestine and Greece from the dawn of civilization to the Hellenistic world.

Student Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course:
1. Students will be able to analyze and interpret primary source documents in words and images that pertain to the social, political and/or cultural life of ancient Mediterranean societies.
2. Students will be able to analyze and interpret secondary sources and comprehend arguments that pertain to the historiography of ancient Mediterranean societies.
3. Students will be able to analyze and clearly explain the argument, main points, and use of evidence in secondary sources, through class discussion and written assignments.
4. Students will be able to describe the development of Greek culture and its various forms of political organization and formulate an overview of popular culture, contemporary interpretations of religion, philosophical debate, and private life in essays.
