HIST 404 - Social History of the United States

Topical examination of major social currents in American life from the colonial period to the 20th century.

Student Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course:
1. Students will be able to explain the origins and significance of major American social phenomena, with emphasis on how and why these have changed over time.
2. Students will recognize that history has subdisciplines, and be able to identify what distinguishes social history from other types.
3. Students will be able to identify, interpret, and synthesize primary, secondary, and cultural sources to make historically based analyses.
