Origins, character and consequences of American foreign policies from the Revolutionary War to the present.

Student Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course:
1. Students will be able to explain how U.S. power in the Pacific world has changed over time.
2. Students will be able to critically examine how ideas, perceptions, and cultural frameworks have shaped the way in which the United States and Americans have encountered and interacted with Asia and Asians.
3. Students will be able to identify, analyze and interpret how those transpacific encounters shaped U.S. culture, society, and politics.
4. Students will be able to analyze and interpret primary sources in different forms, including documents, film, popular media, and photographs.
5. Students will be able to critically read secondary sources and identify the argument and use of evidence.
6. Students will be able to construct an original historical argument and logically support it with evidence from primary and secondary sources.
7. Students will be able to articulate your argument in verbal and written form.
