BCH 705 - Molecular Genetics (3 units) Molecular view of prokaryotic and eukaryotic genes. Structure, expression and regulation of genes. Genetic engineering.
Units of Lecture: 3 Offered: Every Fall Student Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of this course: 1. Students will be able to demonstrate ability to design experimental strategies using state-of-the-art methods/approaches to address biological questions through written examinations. 2. Students will be able to demonstrate a working understanding of advanced topics in molecular genetics through written examinations and in-class discussions. 3. Students will be able to demonstrate ability to critically evaluate the salient points of primary research articles through written and oral summaries. 4. Students will be able to abiltily to summarize a research paper from the primary literature and effectively lead a discussion of the paper. 5. Students will be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of advanced topics in functional genomics and systems biology and the ability to effectively lead a discussion about a specific area of research through oral presentations and in-depth discussions.
