BIOL 190 - Introduction to Cell and Molecular Biology (3 units)
Introduction to the molecular and cellular basis of living organisms, including cell structure and function, principles of genetics and early development.
Prerequisite(s): CHEM 121A and CHEM 121L with a “C-” or better, or CHEM 201 .

Student Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course:
1. Students will be able to integrate knowledge of basic chemistry and major biological molecules to relate structure to cellular function.
2. Students will be able to analyze the central importance of cells (prokaryotic and eukaryotic) as the units of life where complex metabolic reactions take place.
3. Students will be able to describe the foundations of Mendelian genetics and chromosomal theory and apply these to contemporary concepts in genetics.
4. Students will be able to apply basic knowledge of the structure and function of nucleic acids to modern biological research.
