CHS 703 - Applied Health Data Analysis

(3 units)
Methods and software packages in Biostatistics typically used in epidemiological research and practice including data management and multiple regressions.

Student Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course:
1. Students will be able to evaluate preferred methodological alternatives to commonly used statistical methods when assumptions are not met.
2. Students will be able to evaluate the different measurement scales and the implications for selection of statistical methods to be used based on these distinctions.
3. Students will be able to construct descriptive techniques commonly used to summarize public health data.
4. Students will be able to decide common statistical methods for inference.
5. Students will be able to compare results of statistical analyses found in public health studies.
6. Students will be able to create written and oral presentations based on statistical analyses for both public health professionals and educated lay audiences.
7. Students will be able to design data analysis using a statistical software package (SAS).
8. Students will able to analyze basic epidemiology measures.
9. Students will be able to verify causal inference and hypothesis testing.
10. Students will able to judge random error and systematic error (bias).
11. Students will be able to verify whether confounding and/or effect modification is present.
