COM 311 - Communication Research Methods (3 units) CO12 Investigation of research methods in social science research. Emphasis on quantitative and qualitative methods in communication research.
Prerequisite(s): COM 113 ; COM 212 .
Units of Lecture: 3 Offered: Every Fall and Spring Student Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of this course: 1. Students will be able to define concepts and terms associated with social scientific research in communication studies. 2. Students will be able to identify and explain the different methodologies and methods utilized in the research process. 3. Students will be able to apply steps of the research process including collecting data using a social research method. 4. Students will be able to evaluate the use of various research methods for different research questions. 5. Students will be able to complete and comply with Institutional Review Board Certifications (through CITI training) for research ethics. 6. Students will be able to apply research methods to situations outside of the academy.
