COM 468 - Facilitating Difficult Discussions

Introduce perspectives on dialogue, deliberation, and group decision-making with emphasis on the role of facilitators in creating, maintaining, and disrupting communication norms and group dynamics.

Prerequisite(s): COM 113 . Recommended Preparation: COM 315 .

Student Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course:
1. Students will be able to explain fundamental theories and terms related to facilitation.
2. Students will be able to analyze group dynamics.
3. Students will be able to evaluate scholarly research related to dialogue, deliberation, and decision-making.
4. Students will be able to manage group decision-making processes by enacting facilitation techniques.
5. Students will be able to explore issues of public concern or conflict by facilitating group discussions on these topics.
6. Students will be able to reflect on the role of facilitator and their power to influence group dialogue and deliberation processes.
