CHS 745 - Advanced Survey Methods in Public Health

(3 units)
Designed to advanced students’ skill and knowledge of survey methodologies for addressing public health problems.

Prerequisite(s): A Master of Public Health or related degree.

Units of Lecture: 3
Offered: Every Spring
Student Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course:
1. Students will be able to develop original research hypotheses and research questions that will advance public health knowledge.
2. Students will be able to evaluate, justify, and apply appropriate methodological and analytical approaches to address public health research questions.
3. Students will be able to apply the collection, maintenance, use, and dissemination of public health data.
4. Students will be able to effectively defend research methodology and findings through concise scientific writing and oral presentations.
5. Students will be able to manage and analyze data using classic and modern approaches appropriate for various study designs using software packages such as SAS, R, STATA, SPlus, and WinBUGS.
6. Students will be able to formulate appropriate sampling strategies.
7. Students will be able to design, implement, and evaluate psychometric properties of health surveys.
