ENV 101 - Introduction to Environmental Science (3 units) CO4, CO9
A survey of basic ecological principles and an examination of selected environmental issues including overpopulation, pollution and energy alternatives. Credit allowed in only one of ENV 100 and ENV 101.
Prerequisite(s): MATH 120 or corequisite. Corequisite: MATH 126 or higher.

Student Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course:
1. Students will be able to describe the flow of energy and matter through ecosystems; key concepts of population and community ecology; and the biogeochemical cycles that connect air, water, soil and living organisms.
2. Students will be able to discuss key local, regional and global environmental issues, how they relate to basic ecology and/or biogeochemical cycles, and the role of humans and technology in those issues.
3. Students will be able to interpret basic environmental science graphs and data and distinguish between scientific and non-scientific information for informed decision-making.
4. Students will be able to list and describe issues in environmental science relevant to the Truckee River watershed and the Great Basin ecosystem.
